Student's science project spotlights plastics impact on sea turtle's future

September 21, 2020

14-year-old Ocean Hero Lorelei Mohammadbhoy's science fair project on microplastics and their contribution to declining sea turtle populations has earned national recognition. Lorelei's research shows that microplastics on beaches where sea turtles nest are contributing to higher temperatures beneath the sand, leading to more females than males hatching and thus limiting population growth.
