When using or registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter personal identifiable information such as your name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number, etc. You may, however, visit our site anonymously.
2. What Do We Use Your Information For?
Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:
- to improve our website (we continually strive to improve our website offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you);
- to register you for events;
- to facilitate, give feedback on, and provide resources for your activities as an Ocean Hero;
- to make periodic public updates on our website about your work as an Ocean Hero (these updates would use only first names, city/country, and generalized information about the activities you have completed);
- to send periodic emails.
The email address you provide will only be used to send you information and updates pertaining to your registrations for events and/or activities (such as Ocean Hero campaign submissions or Point Reports) on our site. If you decide to opt-in to our mailing list, you will receive emails that may include news, updates, volunteer opportunities, etc. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email. You may also opt out to some or all mailings by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The phone number you provide will only be used to send you information and updates pertaining to your request or inquiry, if necessary.
We have implemented a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and/or disclosure. We offer the use of a secure server. All supplied sensitive information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information provided on, to, or through our Website. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not liable for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on this Website.
5. Do We Disclose Any Information To Outside Parties?
The information we collect will never be sold, exchanged, given, traded, distributed, or otherwise transferred to an outside party, in any way, shape, or form, for commercial purposes. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect the rights, property, or safety of our company or others. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.
6. How Can I Access My Information?
Submitting personal information through any form on this Website does not create a user account at this time. This means you cannot access information you have submitted directly. However, if you would like to update or remove your information from our database (or receive a full report on what of your personal information we have stored), please email us at email@example.com.
7. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance
Since our Website and its services are aimed primarily at youth aged 11 through 18, we are committed to protecting the privacy and rights of children under age 13 and their parents or legal guardians (“parents”) as set out in the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). We strongly encourage parents of children under the age of 13 to oversee any and all use of the Internet - including our Website - by their child.
We will never knowingly request Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. (For our stated purposes for which we process children’s Personal Data, verifiable parental consent means via an email exchange in which we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. The parent must respond signalling their consent within a reasonable time frame or all records of the child or parent’s contact and other information will be deleted.)
At any time, parents can revoke their consent and ask that information about their children be deleted and/or that no further information is collected by contacting us by phone at 404/522-4270 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. To do this or to allow review of Personal Data collected from children, we must verify the identity of the requesting parent. When a parent revokes consent, we will stop collecting, using, processing, or disclosing information from that child. To respect the privacy of parents, information collected and used for the sole purpose of obtaining verifiable parental consent or providing notice is not maintained in retrievable form by the site if parental consent is not obtained after a reasonable time.
