7. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

Since our Website and its services are aimed primarily at youth aged 11 through 18, we are committed to protecting the privacy and rights of children under age 13 and their parents or legal guardians (“parents”) as set out in the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). We strongly encourage parents of children under the age of 13 to oversee any and all use of the Internet - including our Website - by their child.

We will never knowingly request Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. (For our stated purposes for which we process children’s Personal Data, verifiable parental consent means via an email exchange in which we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. The parent must respond signalling their consent within a reasonable time frame or all records of the child or parent’s contact and other information will be deleted.)

With parental consent, we may collect and process Personal Data from children under the age of 13 such as: name, address, email address, and all other types of content outlined in this Privacy Policy. This information allows us to fulfill a requested transaction and facilitate participation in programs, events, and activities; keep records, or to otherwise customize or enhance the Website experience for children, as well as make public reports on the activities and work done by Ocean Heroes (all the purposes previously stated in this Privacy Policy). We will never make public any personal information about children or youth on our platform that might make it possible for third parties to contact them. The only personal data published in our public reports on Ocean Heroes’ work are first names and general location (city, state/province, and country).

At any time, parents can revoke their consent and ask that information about their children be deleted and/or that no further information is collected by contacting us by phone at 404/522-4270 or via email at To do this or to allow review of Personal Data collected from children, we must verify the identity of the requesting parent. When a parent revokes consent, we will stop collecting, using, processing, or disclosing information from that child. To respect the privacy of parents, information collected and used for the sole purpose of obtaining verifiable parental consent or providing notice is not maintained in retrievable form by the site if parental consent is not obtained after a reasonable time.
