Ocean Awareness Prize
The Plastiki Project is looking for individuals who have an immeasurable passion and curiosity for the oceans and our planet. The Plastiki Project wants to support your dream project. The challenge is to come up with something fun and thought-provoking that inspires others to be less wasteful and more connected to our Oceans.
The Plastiki Awareness Prize will go to three (3) campaigns that captures attention and informs others of an issue affecting the health of the ocean that you have decided to tackle in your campaign.
There are two rounds for this contest. Anyone interested in submitting an entry into the contest should enter Round One by JULY 13th. There will be a first round of judging, and a small selection of the most thoughtful, creative, and impactful entries will be chosen to continue for Round Two, where you will be asked to submit more detailed project ideas.
- Must have participated in an in-person or virtual Ocean Heroes Bootcamp within the last year
- Must have submitted a campaign planner through the OceanHeroesHQ.com dashboard
In a video or written response, in 500 words or fewer, answer the following questions:
- What role does the ocean play in your life? Why does it need to be safeguarded against further waste and pollution?
- Describe your idea in a couple of sentences. What issue area would your project focus on? Why is it meaningful to you?
ROUND ONE SUBMISSIONS WERE DUE JULY 13th
Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges and finalists will be notified by July 17th.
If you are selected for Round Two, you will be asked to submit your Round Two responses, in which the judging panel will ask you more questions about your project, your plan, your budget, your timeline, and how you would use a $500 grant.
Note: ALL of this is covered in your Campaign Planner, so you'll already have good answers if you spend time and design a STRONG campaign plan!
ROUND TWO SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY JULY 31. A form will be provided in that email.
There will be one winner selected for each of the following age groups:

The Plastiki is a fully recyclable 60-foot catamaran made of 12,500 recycled plastic bottles and cashew nut glue that sailed 8000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Sydney in 2010, in order to raise awareness for plastic pollution. 10 years on, the Plastiki will embark on a UK tour on a mission to showcase solutions to plastic pollution.
“The Plastiki started out as a crazy dream to start a conversation on the problem of plastic pollution in our Natural world. I could never have imagined how powerful the movement would become and how many great minds are constantly working towards bringing attention, solutions and hope towards solving this solvable problem. Onwards we sail!” - David de Rothschild
