One Caribbean: One Sea
Power to the Youth
Ocean Heroes regional Bootcamp - Caribbean is taking place December 6 and December 11-13, 2020, engaging youth from across the Caribbean to work for the health of our ocean and Caribbean Sea.
The Caribbean is a jewel for marine and cultural diversity connected by ocean currents and the sea’s history. We share the same threats such as ocean acidification, mangrove deforestation, plastic pollution, and intensified hurricanes. Together we are dauntless, we Ocean Heroes are uniting to carry out change as one Caribbean. Join us to work together for One Caribbean, One Sea!
- Your Ocean Hero Hosts - Dejea, Steff & Ben
This Bootcamp spans two weekends - the kick-off takes place Sunday, Dec 6 at 5pm EST, and we will resume again on Friday, Dec 11 at 5pm EST. You can download the schedule here, but it will be updated as new sessions are scheduled. All sessions will be accessed through the password protected Bootcamp website, which will be sent to participants prior to the event.
Through Bootcamp, participants will learn critical campaigning skills and have the opportunity to join forces across the Caribbean to develop campaigns and action plans to tackle the challenges they have identified in their own communities. This regional Bootcamp will unite youth, youth leaders, NGOs, scientists, and policymakers in the Caribbean region with the goal of having youth create individual or collaborative campaigns to tackle issues across three core areas:
MARINE ECOSYSTEM CONSERVATION
BUILDING OCEAN CONNECTIONS
Ocean Heroes empowers existing and emerging youth leaders to create their own campaigns to take action against ocean plastic pollution. The campaigns created by Ocean Heroes support the achievement of UN SDG 14.1 by 2025 and strengthen the global Clean Seas campaign goal to turn the tide on plastic.
